Exploring AI in game development

• What we'll do

What was your favorite usage of artificial intelligence (AI) in a game? Global Games Market Report estimates there are more than 2.2 billion gamers across the globe and for many the enjoyable gameplay is powered at least partially by artificial intelligence technologies. Recent AI advances are being used more and more in games, including in the growing areas of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) gaming. Tech Valley and the Capital District have a strong culture of excellence in game development in industry and academia so we are going to spend some time exploring how AI is used in game development in both the past and in the present state-of-the-art.

This will be a unique meetup in that it will be created collaboratively and presented online. If you would like to participate in the creation, contact Jacob. If you just want to see the finished presentation, just mark that you will attend and stay tuned for the streaming/recording link.

- Hands On Resources

We we'll take a look at things like how game agents make decisions, what Unity machine learning agents can do, path planning strategies and where reinforcement learning makes sense in games. We will discuss how to make interactive storytelling possible with examples like the classic game Façade and delve into the process of emulating artificial life with games like Creatures.

• Important to know

Audience: The expected audience for this talk is anyone interested in both artificial intelligence and game development.
